Once an individual is approved by the World Trade Center Health Program (“WTCHP”) as having a 9/11-related injury, their health care and monitoring for that condition(s) is free for life.
Further, this process then allows their claim to move to the next stage: evaluation for compensation through the The 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund ("VCF"). The VCF considers the following criteria when determining the amount of economic loss:
Age
Work history
Income history prior to developing the non-cancer illness
Severity of the illness
Whether the illness is permanent or temporary
Whether you have received some compensation from other sources such as Social Security Disability or Workers’ Compensation.
